Spending another Christmas with this girl! I just recalled last year I was in Hong Kong with her during Christmas holiday too! 😱
Third consecutive year of taking photo with the Christmas tree at the airport! I remember last year it was Star Wars theme, this year Pokemon~ I am not a fan of Pokemon (I can only name 5 characters – Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Charmander, Snorlex…erm okay, only 4), but I like photos with big Christmas tree! 😊
Finally time for a good brunch before our flight! So disappointed that they don’t have the soup that I wanted. Sometimes you just want that thing and when it’s not available, you just don’t want anything else 😣 Luckily my 酸辣面 was pretty satisfying~
Had the scariest in-flight experience, not due to the plane, but due to my pain (rhymes leh!) 😖 I believe everyone experiences that ear block during take-off and landing and usually it works for me to just swallow my saliva. So the ear pressure thing had never been a problem for me, even though I still hate it.
BUT! This time I experienced sharp piercing pain within the ears on top of the blocked ears! It was a horrible horrible feeling and definitely scared the shit out of me! No matter how much saliva I swallowed, it just wouldn’t ease the blocked ears and pain!!! I had to hold on to my ears and put pressure on it to alleviate the pain a little, but my ear drums still felt super gao wei like they are gonna burst anytime! Super duper 辛苦 one and I swear I never had that before!
At a point there was even like a “rattling” sound within the ear and I totally freaked out. I started wondering if there’s like some bug or lizard in my ear because that really sounded like the lizard’s tail crawling by something 😖 And then I wondered if my ear drums would really burst and I am gonna wear a hearing aid next time. How am I going to edit videos if I become deaf?! Yea so that’s the sort of shit running through my mind when I was suffering that pain in the ears.
After suffering that horrible experience again in the return flight, I did a Google search and realised that it’s due to my flu! All the nasal stuff linked to the ear, adding on to the pressure and etc. OMG~ I never wanna fly again when I have flu! It’s way too scary and torturous that pain!!! 😭 And the worst part is no one understands it unless one has experienced it before.
It’s a small hotel in the city area but it’s still not shabby at all! The room was clean and big enough, with all the needed amenities. Service was good too! The guy at the reception speaks very good English and answered my 3618462836 enquiries 😅
Out to explore the mall nearest to us – Grand Indonesia, which is also like the best mall in Jakarta. I think best because it’s the most modernised mall, but that makes it quite the same like the malls we have in Singapore. Still, we managed to spend the whole Day 1 at the big mall, walking in between the 2 towers 😂 Bought nothing but lots of breads though…hahaha!
Poor foodie Lyn was probably starving throughout the trip because she was travelling with the non-food-lover again…oops~ And she thought the brunch before flight was a breakfast, whereas it was a breakfast + lunch to me 😐 It really kept me full till evening (or even night)! 我很好养 right? Hahahaha!
And we kinda figured out why the cafe is called PopoLAmama, because the chilli flakes is sibei 辣!!! I usually to put a lot a lot of chilli flakes for my pizzas because I like it more flavourful, but this time round I killed myself and reincarnated to Angelina Jolie again 😣 The pizza was pretty nice though!
Had a hard time trying to find the rooftop bar that we saw on the map. In the end when we finally found it (which is like within the mall), we were not allowed to enter because of shorts and slipperd 😢 No choice but to find another bar but everywhere was kinda crowded because it was Christmas eve! Everyone wouldn’t want a boring Christmas eve I suppose~
The aftermath of the testube shots – a tomato evolved! 😂 Oh despite it being a free & easy bochup trip, I still did my research hor! Guess I can never go on a trip feeling safe with just a Google map~
Rise and shine for breakfast~! But sadly, this is like the saddest hotel breakfast i had ever eaten 😑 Super limited BUFFET breakfast, with only like fried rice, sunny side up, sausage, grilled potatoes, I think that’s about it…Zzzzz.
The train station was just 5-minute walk away from us, quite convenient 😊 But the train intervals were pretty long and there is no aircon or fan at the station! It was quite warm and luckily we managed to squeeze up the second train!
Finally a really long train journey (with no seats at all!!!), we finally reached our destination – Bogor, which is like the very last station! And then we still had to find our way to the Botanic Garden, which is mainly what people visit Bogor for 😐
There is actually nothing much on Jakarta, just getting out of the city so Lyn didn’t want a shopping trip~ And we didn’t really have enough time to go anywhere further, so Bogor that is.
Actually the main reason I was looking for the Botanic garden was to see the deer that Andri told me about. He was so nice, even though we hardly talk in MINDS and only started chatting about Indonesia (cause he’s going back there) at Mr Ling’s wake, he actually did all the research for me for Bogor! 😊 好人!!! And the deer just made Bogor sound a little more interesting now! Hehe!
To be honest, there is nothing fascinating about their Botanic Garden 😐 It’s just trees and flowers. But it was really crowded on the day we went, probably because it was a public holiday. Mostly locals having picnic though.
Finished like 1 round of the park but still could not find the deer-feeding spot! I mean we did see them far away at the Istana area before coming into the garden, but I just couldn’t find the spot to feed them! And maybe it would have been easier to convince me if I did not see the deer just now, but I did and I know there are somewhere out there 😫 I just couldn’t find them and I was so disappointed!
Nevertheless, I was still keeping my hopes high because they are like the only reason for me to be in Bogor, even though we planned to come before we even know about their existence~ But now that I know I just didn’t wanna give up so easily! 😦 Not stubborn but just very strong-willed~
Chanced upon a Zoological Museum in the garden that is free for public, so we went in to take a look. Mostly animal fossils and and the preserved species inside the very warm museum~ I am still skeptical that all these animals are real! Are they really really real?!?!
The owls remind me of my old primary school science lab! I think everyone who studied in Townsville old campus before will definitely remember the gigantic owl and also eagle display in the science lab~ They look quite creepy and I used to stare at them wondering if I would catch them blinking some day…hahaha!
“There! Deer!” 😫😫😫 But that’s not the deer I looking for! I want real deer that I can feed… Like my meh meh in Cing Jing –CRY!!!!–
Took a final shot before leaving the Botanic Garden by inquiring with the staff at the entrance. In the end, I got to know that there is nowhere in the park that I can see nor feed the deer! The deer are inside the Istana and the unofficial spot to feed them is outside the Istana, through the railing!
I mean I did enquire a few cleaner/staff inside the garden but all of them only told me it’s at the Istana, but they were unable to tell me how to get to the spot I want due to communication barrier! Yea so I kept thinking the deer are at the Istana but the feeding area is within the park 😐
They were much nearer to the railing now because of the carrots and veggies~ They were street hawkers selling all these at the “feeding area“. I did not feed them in the end because there were quite some people feeding already, so the deer might not eat mine. Furthermore they are really timid and wouldn’t come near the railing, so you can only throw the food in instead of really feeding them straight from your hand.
Oh one of the inside jokes when Andri was telling me about these deer was that he said REINDEER initially. Then I was like, “Wah! Reindeer! So cool! Got Christmas feel!” In the end it’s him who mixed them up 😂 But now that I see, those with the antlers indeed look a bit like reindeer hor? Not bad not bad, got a bit of Christmas feel..HAHA!
Spammed some videos of them too because only videos can capture their actions and real cuteness! ❤
Oh after quite a while, finally one brave “reindeer” came to the railing area to be fed! It looks like an older deer, so maybe more experienced with such interaction and also more brave. The younger ones just refused to come anywhere near even though the lao jiao already stepped forward 😆
On the way back to the station, Lyn finally revealed her hunger and suggested going to the pasar malam area that we passed by earlier on…haha! I think she can really starve to death if she goes on a longer solo trip with me…lol. I mean I have never stopped her from eating, but she doesn’t like to eat alone, and I also don’t like to force-feed myself when I am hungry.
So moral of the story: Always find a travelling partner that shares the same interest as you 😅 Joanjoan is the kind that can travel with me, cause she always just buy a bread or a few sushi for lunch before Chingay practice, JUST LIKE ME!!! HAHAHA!
Anyhow, Lyn was tempted by all the street food so we bought a few to try~ I like street food, but not so much when in the more lok-kok countries, AKA third world countries, because of the hygiene. If it’s Taiwan kind of street food I wouldn’t mind…haha!
The otah looks promising because at least it’s wrapped up and not exposed to the flies or pollution, but it turned out to be the white non-spicy kind of otah 😦 Taste like a more chewy fish cake. Generally everything was not fantastic (I think our food taste nicer), but just trying as a tourist~
Took the really longgggg train ride back again and stood throughout again! 😩 So damn tired by then and I kept falling asleep while standing, like so many times my knees almost gave way cause I almost KO-ed. Thank goodness I had a strong pillar of strength!
Back to the hotel to rest for a short while before heading to Grand Indonesia again for dinner~ Finally a proper meal for the glutton! Hahaha! It’s also probably the best and most proper meal for this trip 😆
Overall everything was pretty good! What a good way to end off our last night in Jakarta~ Oh and not forgetting that it’s Christmas day! So it was quite a splendid Christmas meal 😊 Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Spotted the cutest Santa and I’m so glad that his nice dad agreed to a picture! The other little Santas were all quite shy and only this was very keen for a photo with us…hahaha! And he happened to be the cutest and most handsome one! 😍
Forgot to take a picture of the hotel’s exterior so I only managed a quick but blur shot while in the cab 😂 Goodbye, Liberty Hotel! Overall we had a pleasant stay because the staff were really helpful, service was good and room was clean and comfortable. The only bad thing was of course the breakfast, but at least there’s still keropok…HAHA.
Jakarta feels a bit like Batam actually, but I think Batam has got more things to shop because they are cheaper. Did not really shop much here except for a few tibits~ But still not bad to be away from the Christmas crowd in Singapore and also have a different Christmas (:
